Foundational Science & Professional Training

TUBHA is rooted in African traditional herbalism, but our programs are not limited to cultural theory alone.

Students receive structured education in:

  • Foundational botanical science
  • Materia medica development
  • Human body systems and physiology foundations
  • Herbal energetics and formulation principles
  • Clinical intake structure and assessment models
  • Scope of practice and ethical guidelines
  • Clerical application, documentation, and client record-keeping
  • Responsible business and practitioner frameworks

Our curriculum integrates ancestral knowledge with systematic educational methodology. Students are trained not only in herbal tradition, but in the foundational sciences and professional application practices required to operate responsibly and competently.

This ensures that graduates are grounded, structured, and professionally prepared.

Why We Do Not Seek Conventional “Herbal Board” Accreditation

Herbalism in the United States is not federally licensed or regulated as a standardized medical profession. There is no single governing body that universally regulates or licenses herbal practitioners.

Most “board certifications” within the herbal field are private memberships or organizational affiliations rather than governmental licensure.

TUBHA has made an intentional decision not to pursue accreditation through traditional Western herbal boards for two primary reasons:

1. Herbalism Is Not a Federally Regulated Medical Profession

There is currently no federal licensure system for herbalists in the United States. “Board certification” does not equate to state licensure or medical regulation.

2. Our Focus Is African Traditional Herbalism

TUBHA specializes in African-centered botanical knowledge systems. Many contemporary herbal credentialing structures were developed within Western frameworks that historically excluded or restructured Indigenous and African knowledge traditions.

Our educational model honors ancestral systems while maintaining academic rigor and professional structure, without requiring validation from institutions that were not built to uphold those traditions.

Our Commitment

We are committed to:

  • Academic integrity
  • Cultural preservation
  • Foundational science education
  • Responsible clinical application training
  • Ethical practice guidance
  • Clear scope-of-practice instruction

Our goal is not simply certification. It is structured, competent, culturally grounded professional development.
